Could you imagine believing in a team that ultimately fails in front of your eyes? As a lifelong Dolphins fan I can say, yes. Both fortunately and unfortunately this has only happened a few times in my life. Not one of those teams felt anything close to this current 2024 Fins. 🐬
The Jets have been the epitome of mid for just as long. There is no wonder why they desperately grab at any scrap for hope. I get it! But this is getting ugly 😳
Warning ⚠️ Jets fans might not like this one ☝️
Teams have become better in the NFL and yes, one other in the AFC East in particular, the New York Jets. However, It does beg the question. How much better? ✈️
There is no doubt that Aaron Rodgers is one of the greatest quarterbacks to grace a football field. And yes, I’m sure he can still throw better than most. But what made him special? If we break down the numbers it’s clear. He is the most accurate quarterback of all time! Very specifically when kept clean in the pocket and especially outside of the pocket while scrambling.
This is key to understanding because, as Aaron Rodgers has aged, his ability to escape the pocket has dwindled rapidly. In 2021 with Devonte Adams and Aaron Jones, Rodgers was already declining. He ranked 10th in passing. In 2022 he declined by 400 yards on 1 more game played.
For reference, Tua Tagovailoa had about 140 yards less with 4 less games played. We can also add that Rodgers catchable passes outside of the pocket took a massive nose dive. The facts show that Tua was already better in 2022 as Rodgers was beginning his dissent.
Add in the 4 plays in 2023 when his lack of mobility clearly put him in a position to tear his Achilles. Along with the fact that his Achilles was torn…there is absolutely no way the once great quarterback, outside of the pocket, will have improved from his already declining state.
So what could help Aaron Rodgers? I would say that his RB Breece Hall is up there with the best doing it. There is no doubt that Breece can establish a ground and pound game that can be very effective in managing a clock. Braelan Allen looks cut from the same cloth as his backup. Still, Let me be clear I am not ready to say Breece Hall is better than Aaron Jones in 21’.
Might I remind you that Breece Hall didn’t even have 1000 yards on 17 games. He averaged 4.5 yards per carry. His receiving on the other hand was very impressive. Nearly 600 yards!
Raheem Mostert rushed for 1,012 yards averaging 4.8 ypc and 13 more touchdowns on 2 less games. De’Von Achane on 6 less games rushed for 800 yards averaging 7.8 ypc! Combined receiving around 400. Should be much improved this year! This is probably the best RB room in the NFL👀 🚀
Garret Wilson is a route running ace but how could you say he is as good as Devonte Adams? To be fair, GW was open enough last year that it infuriated Fantasy Owners. I’m sure he takes a step forward this year.
I think we should remember that Rodgers was only the 10th ranked passer in 2021 with Devonte Adams…before we start saying he will beat the #1 ranked passer (Tua Tagovailoa) in 2023. Add in that Tua also operated the most effective run game in 2023. Jets media, aka ESPN, looks a bit homer recently. Probably attributing to some of this recent delusion.
I’m guessing the discussion on who has the more capable receiving room isn’t even really a discussion since the most logical debate would be Garret Wilson or Jaylen Waddle. I don’t see how you can truthfully include Tyreek Hill in this and sleep at night.
So what else? The Dolphins TE room is better than the Jets. The usage is about to be crazy! I’m sure you can definitely say the Jets have a better offensive line, though I’m not sure the Dolphins will have a worse line than 2023 which resulted in them leading the league in both passing and rushing. 🤷♂️
The only place we can arrive at would be the Jets defense, who I’m told is very good but for some reason we never get the shot to see it when we play them. Tua and the Dolphins hung 30 points on them without Tyreek Hill last year so… 😬 👀
One could say the Jets defense gave up somewhere during the year. I would counter by saying, “Are you sure the Jets defense has really been tested? Seems teams don’t really need to stress them much to win”.
Will the Jets be better than 2023? Yes, absolutely! But the truth is the Jets are multiple games away from competing with the Dolphins for the division.
They should be projecting much more similar to the Seahawks really.
The #miamidolphins are competing to be the best in the world, not just a division 😉
