As I write this article I am 36 years old. Think about that for one second, 36! Too young to have enjoyed the Super Bowl run Dolphins. Too young to have enjoyed the sheer excitement of adding a Michael Jordanesque player in Dan Marino and watching his rise to stardom from rookie to legend. If you are my age or right around it, you know what I mean...
The Miami Dolphins started out for us as a legendary team at the back end of Marinos career. Unfortunately, that hope we had with Marino was lost all too quickly in our lifetimes. We would go on to suffer the agony of plenty of false hope post Marino retirement…
For decades we have heard the same words uttered from Older Dolphins fans “back in my day”. 😂
Insert Mike McDaniel and a new hope! As we celebrate the extension that Mike McDaniel so rightfully deserves, I want to take a minute to reflect.
From that “Check your pulse” phone call that Mike made to Tua on the airplane, to this day where Mike has been extended through 2028… this is the first time in a 36 year olds life that the Miami Dolphins feel like they have the potential to not just win it all, but do it multiple times! 👀
McDaniel has lead us to a 2 for 2 playoff birth and put together a team that lead the NFL in passing and rushing! 🚀
I think the fact that Coach took a battered and emotionally damaged Quarterback (Tua Tagovailoa) and made him into a QB that lead the league in passing and top five in every major qb statistic, makes it even sweeter. We can see the gears of inspiration turning in the locker room. ⚙️
Heck, we even have vets taking less money just to be a part of this team! To me this screams hope louder than any Dolphins era that I’ve ever witnessed.
I know some of the older fans don’t quite understand this since they had the pleasure of living through some incredible eras. This is our era! This is the first time that folks my age can say that we are true contenders!
And because of this, The McDaniel Effect is in full effect! In 20 years we will look back. In backyard bbq discussions we will tell young dolphins fans that they have no idea what it was to be alive during this time and I for one am eager to enjoy every second of it! FinsUp to the new generation of winning 🤙
